He laughs, shakes his head, and sits.

"Fine. Bar, can I have some pancakes on this asshole's tab?"

A plate of pancakes obligingly shows up. Bar sees fit to include a bowl of sliced fruit and a glass of milk.

Obadiah chuckles, turning back to his own breakfast for a moment.

"Thanks," he says, picking up a fork and giving the fruit a dubious glance. But nobody's going to make him eat it, and pancakes are tasty.

"The sooner you lower your standards about what you try to make him eat, the happier you'll be," Obadiah tells the Bar.

A napkin pops up immediately: I assume the experiments in testing that statement will be on your tab?

Obadiah doesn't quite roll his eyes. "Sure, why not."

Howard can't help grinning. He doesn't say anything, but only because pancakes.

"The first lesson in Milliways should be 'never issue the Bar a challenge,'" Obadiah says dryly.

New napkin: :)

"Yes, yes, you're very cute."

"She is," Howard agrees.

But Obadiah is who he's grinning at.

He'd forgotten exactly how much he hates it when Howard does that.

(There is a tease in the Stark family, and his name isn't Tony.)

"That's all right," he says lightly, "it just makes the told-you-sos all the sweeter."

"You lost me," Howard says amicably, going back to his pancakes.

"Now there's a new development."

It's like nothing has changed at all. That doesn't really surprise him much. Howard always was predictable.

"No, really. Who's telling who they told them so? I mean, granted," om nom pancakes, "more cuteness in any part of that equation is a bonus."

Obadiah gives him the kind of fond look that is generally reserved for Tony (both Tonys) these days.

"For all that you're a genius, I sometimes wonder how you manage to dress yourself in the morning. I'll be telling the Bar I told her so after you've turned down or lost interest in most of whatever she tries to tempt you with."

"Trial and error," he says cheerfully. "Want my fruit?"

"No," Obadiah says, but he reaches over to spear a chunk of apple with his fork.

"Liar."

"You already knew that," Obadiah points out after he swallows.

"So I like stating the obvious. Sue me."

"I think I've already had my revenge," Obadiah says placidly, swiping a strawberry.

...Howard is giving him a look again, like he can't quite believe Obadiah just said that, in that tone of voice.

Obadiah smiles at him with the benign charm he has long since perfected and bites into the berry.

"I don't get you," Howard concludes.

"Most people don't."

He likes it that way.

"But I don't really have any reason to lie to you anymore, so why bother?"

Wryly: "I appreciate it. I think."

"It seems like the least I can do."

He finishes off the strawberry.

"Not killing me would've been nice, too," Howard points out.
